Is there a direct train from Rome to the Amalfi Coast?

No. The Amalfi Coast has no railway: the nearest stations are Naples and Salerno, reached by high-speed train from Rome in 70-90 minutes. From there you continue by SITA bus, seasonal ferry or private car. It is that final stretch that makes the difference: narrow, busy and hard work with luggage.

Train plus bus or ferry: how it works

From Roma Termini the high-speed train reaches Naples in about 70 minutes or Salerno in about 90. From Naples, Sorrento needs the Circumvesuviana; from Salerno, SITA buses run to Amalfi and Positano and, from April to October, so do the ferries. The full trip takes 4-5 hours with 2-3 changes, separate tickets and high-season queues. Doable with a light backpack, not recommended with luggage, children or a tight schedule.
